In the election season, many things which don’t even have wings fly from one person to another- like booze, cash, saaris, food grains, mobiles etc etc. But, one peculiar unseen thing also flies from top to bottom- that is, lies in the garb of promises (vaada).
As someone beautifully said-
वादा पूरा करने का दावा है,
दावा तो है, पर ये मेरा वादा है।
As you can see, दावा in hindi is just वादा read in reverse, which means that वादा is exactly the opposite of दावा, and consequently stands for what दावा doesn’t. And as दावा means affirmative claim to do something, वादा meaning “pejorative or negative claim to not do something”.
Now, you get it! The poll promises anywhere in the world, are nothing but “vaada”, the lofty promises that once elected we will do this, that, bla bla bla. Give us your vote, and your life will become beautiful. You will feel like you are in a heaven (albeit only in your dreams :P). And whatever, we have promised you will be done once we form the government. At some moment, it “feels” like the boundary between the vaada and daava is getting blurred fast and they feel like the same. But, after the elections are over, the boundary suddenly starts to reappear again.
The irony here is that some of the persons who are making these lofty promises have a term of only 5 years in our country (in the US, it is only 4 years). So, the life of most of their promises (alternatively, a bunch of lies) is only 5 years. And what happens after 5 years???? The wings with which these lies were flying get old enough, and the bird of golden dreams falls flat to the ground. That is exactly the moment, when electorate realizes that the lie has outlived its life, and now it is time for yet another set of lies.
The astute politicians across the world are very conscious of this fact that the life of a lie is coterminous with the term of the government. They also know that the electorate has short memory, and they will forget what they were promised in the last elections. So, come next elections, its time for a new set of lies to fly around with newfound wings. Some, sane people cry out foul resonating with the words of Kishor Kumar in the song:
झूठा है तेरा वादा….वादे पे मैं मारा गया….
वादा तेरा वादा , वादा तेरा वादा….
But, the common junta, which is more in numbers, doesn’t give a F*** about what sane people have to say. They are happy seeing the UFOs (unidentified flying objects) in the form of lies/promises during the festive season of elections. Some people even get more freebies during the 2 months of election season in terms of cash, booze, eatables, mobiles than they get in the next five years. And everyone seems so happy during election times. It feels like the sleeping junta and the politicians have come to life and there is so much activity all around. Sometimes, I feel like this is the only time that people become aware that they really exist. And who cares about lies! Anyways, the life of lie in a democracy is the timespan between one election and the next election!
So, how does it matter even if the “vaada”,
could not become a “daava” and turns out to be a yet another “chalaava”.
Because people are happy watching “Chaava”,
and occasionally dancing to the tunes of “shaava shaava” 😀
