There are certain things and activities that can elevate the level of your mind into a completely different dimension of time and space. Those who are passionate about something often experience this dimension when they are truly engrossed in doing “the thing”. In such moment or series of moments, the horizons of your mind expand beyond their usual domain. It is when you lose the sense of time. Time flows slowly, easily and effortlessly. Basically, you stop caring about time. Similarly, the space around your mind expands effortlessly into different dimensions that you had never experienced before and new thoughts keep blossoming into that infinite space. Doesn’t make sense? It will, just be patient!
Take for example, if you like to travel, then during travelling from one place to another you get so engrossed in the beauty of the places that every other thought escapes from your mind. It is like an immersive experience where you enjoy every moment of it. When this happens, you don’t care about what time is it, or for how long you have been there. For that moment, you just hope that this lasts forever and you don’t want to let the moment slip from your hand. This is the experience of losing the sense of time. The best thing about travel that I like is to let go of the control that we constantly put on our minds. And when you let go of the control, then the calming feeling of freedom you get when the thoughts come and go naturally, readily and fluently is unparalleled. It is like watching a newly released movie. You don’t know what is going to come next, you just BE there and let the things come on their own. There is no rush to get anywhere, no sense of past or the future. Just THE moment(s). Also, when you expose yourself to a new surrounding during travel, the expanse of your imagination grows exponentially. You don’t just remain within the confines of your body. It is like the boundary of your body erodes and you start experiencing yourself with the natural surroundings. It suddenly feels that the landscapes, the water, the fauna and flora are something like us only. Their features and sound start resonating in our hearts and minds like never before. The dimensions of their beauty start growing in your mind. You start seeing animation in the inanimate things too. We even try to personify them. This is the experience that writers, poets and philosophers have when they imagine a river stream talking, a flower expressing itself and the bird singing melodious tunes.
The same thing you can experience if you love some song and it plays in your mind on loop. You don’t remember how many times you have sung that song in your mind in a day. You don’t feel bored by the same song, listening over and over again. It’s like the clocks have stopped ticking for you. If someone/something suddenly breaks your concentration, you don’t realize that it has been so long that you were immersed in that thing. And you are into a completely different dimension of space. You don’t care if you could sing good or not. You don’t care if notes are correct or not. It’s like replaying that song again and again in your mind with the voice of the singer resonating just as if you are the one singing that song. It feels so liberating when you start identifying yourself with the emotions and meaning of the song. This is the secret reason why so many youngsters enjoyed the movies like Saiyaara, Animal and Kabir Singh. They connected themselves with the protagonists emotionally and their songs were another level. And no matter how much you criticize the negative protagonists in these movies, the fans simply don’t care because these movies introduced themselves into new dimensions of time and space, maybe of themselves.
The same experience can be deduced from the stories of legendary music composers, writers, performers, painters, sportspersons, entrepreneurs, scientists, thinkers etc. They elevate the existential level of living into experiential level of living. They are the best in what they do, and they do what they do just for the sake of doing it, unmindful of what others will think about them. Because if they keep themselves within the confines of space and time, they won’t be able to create something incredible!
It is the experience that transcends the finite nature of space and time. Your mind and body starts experiencing something unusual, like it is not limitless and it is expanding in the space. Maybe this is the experience that yogis have when they meditate and think of themselves as becoming one with their surroundings. Maybe the infinite consciousness or soul residing in their finite bodies is saying something to them, which was hitherto unknown and unheard of…..And they like to be in that state forever….of realization, of bliss and of enlightenment.
Till next time….
